Top 10 Most Popular Programming Languages of All Time

Most Popular Programming Languages of All Time

In past decades, many programming languages were created; some of them gained popularity, while others did not. Today, in this article, we are going to discuss the Top 10 Popular Programming Languages of All Time.

Did you know that some of the oldest languages are still in use and remain among the most popular programming languages?

Popular Programming Languages of All Time

Discover the top 10 most influential programming languages that have shaped the digital world. Uncover their significance and applications:

1. Java

If you have some knowledge about programming languages, you must have heard about this popular programming language called Java. Initially released in 1995, Java is a core element of Sun Microsystems.

Ruling the industry for two decades, the programming language has a lot of applications. It is extensively used in server web applications and is also the core programming language for Android App Development. The reason why Java has garnered enormous attention is due to its platform-independent feature.

Talking about syntax is somewhat relatable to C and C++. However, when it comes to low-level operations, Java does not support it.

2. C

After Java, another popular programming language that comes to mind is the C Programming Language. Bell Labs holds the accolades for developing this language.

Despite being a low-level language, C language has been extensively used to write thousands of applications. Besides that, C language also provides access to various resources in the system.

Most of the newer programming languages borrow syntax from C Programming. Even though C is one of the oldest programming languages, most languages are built around its features, like C# and C++.

3. C++

While talking about C, the next thing that pops up in your mind is C++. C++ was released in 1983 and is an upgraded version of the C language based on the concept of object-oriented programming.

It has ruled the industry for more than three decades and has been used to design many applications and projects. From e-commerce and web applications to telecom services and processing engines, C++ has been widely used in this field.

4. Python

Coming to the high-level programming language, another language that tops the list is Python.  This is named the fastest-growing language in the industry due to its easy-to-learn features.

One can easily learn this language and get started with it. Python has a lot of applications in high-level programming such as machine learning and data analysis.

5. Visual basic

Next on the list is Visual Basic. Being an object-oriented programming language, Visual Basic has garnered the attention of many programmers since its release in 2002.

As of now, it is a core component of Visual Studio and comprises a range of development applications running from Visual Basic to C++.

6. PHP

Started in 1995, PHP presently known as Hypertext Preprocessor is one of the most powerful languages in the industry.

PHP has been extensively used to design web pages and create applications. Apart from this, it is also applicable in database connectivity, for example, Facebook, Wikipedia, etc has the application of PHP.

PHP is quite easy and the syntaxes are also quite easy as compared to other programming languages. This is the reason why PHP is often favored to create interactive and dynamic web pages incorporating HTML.

7. JavaScript

People often confuse Java with JavaScript, leading to the misconception that both languages are similar. However, to clarify, JavaScript, also released in 1995, is a completely different language compared to Java.

Moreover, the application of JavaScript differs, as it is widely used for web applications. In the recent past, the concept of Ajax (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) has helped JavaScript reach its zenith in creating robust web applications.

8. Object Pascal

Have you ever heard of Delphi? If you haven’t come across this language, remember that it is built around the Pascal programming language, specifically Object Pascal. Pascal, developed by Niklaus Wirth, is a cross-compilation language.

Delphi is the successor of Turbo Pascal and has gained widespread usage in developing application tools for operating systems like Windows. Pascal deserves a spot in the top 10 programming languages due to its object-oriented programming features.

Many software applications have been written in Pascal, including notable ones like Nero, Skype, Oracle, SQL Developer, etc.

9. Ruby

While talking about the top programming languages of all time, we cannot ignore Ruby, which was initially released in 1995.

Being an open-source programming language, Ruby is one of the easiest languages to learn. Built around natural syntax, one can easily read and write Ruby language to execute any application.

10. Typescript

If you are not familiar with various programming languages, then TypeScript might be one that you have not come across.

Developers say that it is comparable to JavaScript as it encompasses similar syntax. Developed by Microsoft, this language has been running successfully for the past 11 years and will get much more attention in the coming future.

Most developers have cited that the reason TypeScript is getting popular is due to the fact that it shares some similarities with JavaScript.
